Stern Fallout Pinball LE: Why Is the Price Jump So Big?

Stern has officially unveiled Fallout pinball, and while the game itself is obviously the main attraction, there is another number that immediately stands out: $13,999 for the Limited Edition.

The new Fallout lineup is priced at approximately $7,299 for the Pro, $10,699 for the Premium and $13,999 for the Limited Edition, with the LE restricted to just 770 machines worldwide.

That's a significant jump at the top of Stern's range and makes Fallout an interesting release for collectors.

A New Price Point for Stern

Stern has been gradually increasing its prices, so seeing a new machine become more expensive isn't particularly surprising.

The interesting part is where the Limited Edition now sits.

Recent Stern LEs such as Pokémon and Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye were priced around $12,999, meaning Fallout pushes the LE price another $1,000 higher.

The difference between the Fallout Pro and LE is even more striking.

You're looking at roughly $6,700 more for the Limited Edition.

That immediately raises the obvious question:

Is the LE really worth that much more?

Pro, Premium or Limited Edition?

This is where things become more interesting than simply looking at the price.

The Pro is designed to give you the core Fallout experience at the lowest price.

The Premium adds more physical features and additional hardware, while the LE takes the machine further into collector territory with its exclusive presentation and limited production.

Sometimes the Premium version can make a major difference to the gameplay. Other times, the Pro already gives you almost everything that makes the game great.

Fallout will be another interesting machine to compare.

Why 770 Machines Matters

The Limited Edition will be produced in a run of only 770 machines, which makes it significantly more exclusive than the Pro or Premium.

That doesn't automatically mean it will become a valuable investment.

But rarity combined with a huge theme like Fallout certainly gives the LE collector appeal.

If the game turns out to be excellent and Fallout remains a highly desirable franchise, those 770 machines could become particularly interesting on the used market several years from now.

That's something we'll have to wait and see.

And What About Customising Fallout?

Fallout is also the kind of theme that should work extremely well with custom pinball artwork.

The most interesting thing about Fallout isn't simply that Stern has raised its prices.

It's that the new LE price of $13,999 moves Stern very close to a psychological $14,000 barrier.

That's a significant amount of money for a pinball machine, even at the collector end of the market.

Whether buyers think the Fallout LE is worth it will ultimately depend on the game itself, its features, the quality of the Limited Edition package and, of course, how much they love Fallout.

But one thing is already clear:

Stern's Fallout has arrived with a new price ceiling — and collectors will be watching very closely to see whether the market accepts it.
