Best Avengers Pinball Mods

Released by Stern in 2012 and designed by George Gomez, The Avengers brought Marvel's biggest superheroes to pinball with a huge Hulk, the spinning Tesseract, Loki Multiball and a playfield packed with familiar characters.

More importantly for collectors today, it is a machine with a lot of visual personality.

The four versions — Pro, Premium, Avengers LE and Hulk LE — each have their own cabinet artwork, making it a particularly interesting machine to customise. And at Wizard Mod, we've created dedicated upgrades for all of them.

Start Inside the Cabinet with WizBlades

If there is one modification that can completely change the visual impact of an older Stern machine, it is WizBlades.

The Avengers WizBlades bring custom artwork directly into the area surrounding the playfield, extending the visual experience beyond Stern's original cabinet design.

With all the colour and character artwork associated with Marvel, Avengers is particularly well suited to this type of upgrade. The effect becomes especially noticeable during gameplay, when the cabinet artwork catches the light around the playfield.

It is a simple way to make a 2012 machine feel much more personalised without changing its original identity.

Four Machines, Four WizPanel Designs

This is where the different Avengers editions become particularly interesting.

We created three different WizPanel designs for the four versions of the machine.

There is an Avengers 2012 Pro/Premium WizPanel, plus dedicated versions for the Hulk LE and the Avengers Blue LE.

That means the artwork doesn't have to be a generic Avengers design. It can be matched to the specific version sitting in your collection.

The magnetic panels cover the speaker area and turn what would otherwise be a relatively plain section of the cabinet into another part of the artwork.

Keep the Artwork Going with WizAprons

The apron sits directly in front of the player, so it is one of those areas that becomes surprisingly noticeable once you start customising a machine.

For Avengers, we created four dedicated WizAprons, just as we did with the WizPanels.

There is a specific design for the Pro, another for the Premium, and separate artwork for the two Limited Editions, Hulk LE and Blue LE.

This is particularly important with Avengers because the different LE machines already have such distinctive visual identities. The Hulk LE and blue Avengers LE deserve their own artwork rather than simply sharing one design.

Combined with WizBlades and WizPanels, the apron helps create a much more complete visual flow from the cabinet down into the playfield.

Put Marvel Artwork on the Flippers

WizBats might be a smaller modification, but they are positioned in one of the most visible places on the entire machine.

The Avengers WizBats add custom artwork directly to the flipper bats, giving the lower part of the playfield another small detail that players see throughout every game.

They work particularly well as a finishing touch after the larger cabinet areas have already been customised.

You don't necessarily need to change everything at once. WizBats can be the final detail that brings the whole design together.

Hulk LE? Finish It with WizDoors

The Hulk LE has one of the most distinctive looks of the Avengers editions, with its green cabinet artwork and matching details.

That makes it a perfect candidate for custom WizDoors.

The Hulk LE WizDoors bring another piece of themed artwork onto the front of the cabinet, replacing the standard visual interruption created by the coin door with something that belongs to the machine.

It is a relatively small area, but once you've customised the rest of the cabinet, the coin door can suddenly become the one place that still looks completely standard.

Avengers and Infinity Quest Are Two Very Different Machines

It is worth making one distinction clear.

This article is about the 2012 Avengers, designed by George Gomez.

A few years later, Stern released Avengers: Infinity Quest, designed by Keith Elwin. It is a completely different machine, with a different layout, ruleset and visual identity.

Infinity Quest is also one of the standout modern machines of the Keith Elwin era, and we've created a separate collection of Avengers: Infinity Quest Pinball Mods for it.

Give Your Avengers a Complete Look

The great thing about customising Avengers is that you don't have to do everything at once.

Start with WizBlades. Add the correct WizPanels for your edition. Bring more artwork into the player area with a matching WizApron, then finish the details with WizBats and, for the Hulk LE, the dedicated WizDoors.
