The new Sonic pinball machine from Jersey Jack Pinball is exactly what many players expected: incredibly fast, packed with features, and full of personality. A Playfield Packed With Action
One of the highlights of the machine is its unique upper playfield. Rather than simply adding a second level, Steve Ritchie filled it with an incredible number of shots.
The upper playfield features two widely separated flippers with a post positioned between them. This clever layout rewards players who master the art of the nudge. Small cabinet nudges become an important skill, allowing players to control rebounds and create shots that would otherwise seem impossible.
It's one of those layouts that immediately feels different from almost every other modern pinball machine.
Some complete pinball machines have fewer shots than what Sonic manages to fit into this upper section alone.

Colours, Lights and Incredible Artwork
Visually, Sonic is stunning.
The cabinet is full of vibrant artwork inspired by the video games, while the playfield bursts with bright colours, flashing inserts, animated toys and the famous gold rings scattered throughout the machine.
Many of those rings even contain their own small LED displays, constantly providing gameplay information while becoming part of the artwork itself.
Everything feels energetic, colourful and alive.
Why We Designed Our Sonic Mods Differently
Looking at Sonic, we quickly realised that subtle artwork simply wouldn't work.
The machine itself is loud, colourful and full of visual energy, so our mods needed to match that personality.
Instead of using simple backgrounds, we created artwork inspired by Green Hill Zone, extending the world of Sonic beyond the playfield and across the cabinet.
The goal wasn't simply to decorate the machine.
It was to make the cabinet feel like an extension of the game itself.
